MEET KWONSULTING

BACKGROUND

Kwonsulting: The mightiest one-man band since 2020

Jason Kwon - the main man, the head honcho, the one who makes the coffee - founded Kwonsulting to support small-to-medium-sized businesses in New Zealand after returning from London at the end of 2019.

Faced with the choice of diving back into the world of Big 4 / NZ corporates or going solo, Jason opted for the latter - because why have endless meetings about meetings when you can actually get things done? To this day, he continues to bring the expertise, insights, and occasional caffeine-fueled wisdom gained from his Big 4 / UK corporate days to businesses across New Zealand.

Jason has been a Chartered Accountant for over 10 years and a weekend warrior golfer for five.

THE VISION

Making big-firm expertise accessible - without the big-firm price tag

The goal? To help businesses get results as accurately and efficiently as possible - without forcing them to knock on the doors of top-tier firms (and pay top-tier rates).

This might involve:

  • Equipping businesses with the right tools and information before they march into investor meetings - because “winging it” isn’t a great strategy for raising capital.

  • Translating accounting, finance, and IT jargon into plain English - so business owners don’t have to pretend they know what “synergistic integrations” or “leveraging efficiencies” actually mean.

  • Playing middleman between the business and specialist vendors (IT, banks, advisory firms), so stakeholders can focus on running the business instead of deciphering cryptic emails filled with acronyms.

In short, it's all about giving businesses the expert support they need.

WORKING WITH THE CLIENT

You can rest assured that any initiative with Kwonsulting will be practical, not theatrical.

No fluff, no unnecessary bells and whistles - just solid solutions that make sense.

No fancy PowerPoint slides either. Just beautifully crafted, no-nonsense spreadsheets and the right tech that do the heavy lifting - because let’s be honest, Excel and the right tech solution are the real MVPs.

About

SERVICES AND CAPABILITIES

Since day one, Kwonsulting has been getting stuff done, rolling up sleeves and tackling projects involving:

01 / FINANCIAL MODELLING, FEASIBILITY, BUSINESS CASE DEVELOPMENT, COST TO SERVE
02 / FINANCIAL MODEL REVIEWS

Financial Modelling (with less guesswork and more button-clicking)

Integrated three-statement financial model (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) that actually makes sense. Whether you’re raising capital, securing debt financing, or tackling the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting grind, Kwonsulting has you covered.

  • Seamlessly integrated with the general ledger, so refreshing data is as easy as clicking a button - no more staring at outdated numbers and wondering if they’re from this year or last decade.

  • Dropdowns in all the right places, letting you toggle between base-case, best-case, and worst-case scenarios - because hope is not a strategy, but a good model is.

  • Sensitivity analysis? Yes, please! Whether it’s interest rates, FX rates, or selling prices, you’ll see exactly how small changes impact the bottom line, without needing a crystal bail.

Feasibility, Business Case Development and Cost to Serve (a.k.a. Making smart choices without regret)

Thinking about a major capital investment? Debating whether to keep a plant running or shut it down? Instead of flipping a coin, let’s run the numbers, properly.

  • Financial assessments that go beyond gut feeling and into solid decision-making territory.

  • Monte Carlo Simulations, because sometimes rolling the dice intelligently is better than just rolling.

Financial Model Peer Review (because even spreadsheets need a second opinion)

Let’s be honest - financial models can be like flat-pack furniture. They look solid, but one wrong formula and suddenly, everything collapses. That’s where a peer review comes in.

A model review scope includes observations and recommendations on:

  • Application of best practice principles: Is the model built like a well-structured skyscraper or more like a house of cards?

  • Formula and logical consistency: Because nothing says "fun" like tracking down a rogue cell reference from Sheet626.

  • Stress-test outputs: Can the model handle a downturn, or does it fall apart faster than a New Year’s resolution?

  • Input assumptions and data capture efficiency: Let’s cut out the unnecessary steps - copy-pasting numbers manually is not a personality trait.

  • Macro (VBA) effectiveness: If the model runs on VBA, does it work like a well-oiled machine, or does it crash harder than an overworked laptop?

In short, your financial model gets a thorough health check, so it’s not just functional - it’s actually bulletproof.

03 / DATA ANALYSIS AND BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE
04 / OPTIMISATION OF FINANCE TEAM OPERATIONS AND PROCESSES

Extracting and Transforming queried data

Building interactive dashboards isn’t just about making things look pretty (though that’s a nice bonus). It’s about empowering key stakeholders with self-service reporting.

By pulling data directly from SQL databases or SaaS platforms and deploying scheduled refreshes, these dashboards can save junior team members from spending days manually generating reports.

Now, instead of wrestling with spreadsheets, they can focus on more important value-add tasks.

As businesses grow and evolve, processes tend to multiply.

Reviews of process often reveal inefficiencies, usually in the form of heroic efforts to wrestle reports into spreadsheets, only to copy them into another spreadsheet… and then another.

The good news? There are smarter, automated solutions that can handle this with just a few clicks, freeing employees from spreadsheet gymnastics. Less time on tedious tasks means more time for meaningful work - and maybe even a full night’s sleep.

05 / WORKFLOW DEVELOPMENT

Automation

A process undertaken within one system may need to take a scenic tour through another system and then notified to a group of stakeholders that this action has been completed.

Or maybe it’s the classic case of an email landing in a mailbox, setting off a domino effect of tasks.

Automating processes such as this eliminates or minimises the clerical gymnastics, and again enables employees to focus on the value-add that moves the needle.

06 / PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Deals Process

So, a non-binding offer has been sent or received - now what? Time to dive into data rooms, due diligence, and enough paperwork to make a lawyer smile. Kwonsulting helps businesses navigate the post-offer chaos with a cool head, a structured approach, and just enough patience to survive endless document requests.

IT Systems Implementation

At some point, a business realises its small business SaaS accounting system just isn’t cutting it anymore. It’s like upgrading from a cozy apartment to a full-blown house - you need more space, but suddenly there’s a lot more to manage.

That’s where a project manager comes in - acting as the middleman between key business stakeholders and the implementation vendor. Think of it as having a translator for tech speak and business speak, ensuring that:

  • Process documentation and storyboarding don’t turn into bedtime reading material.

  • Configuration and data migration don’t feel like moving houses… with zero packing labels.

  • Everyone stays focused on their actual jobs instead of getting lost in system upgrade purgatory.

In short, Kwonsulting makes sure the transition is smooth - because business growth should be exciting, not an IT horror story.

07 / TRAINING
08 / OUTSOURCED / WHITE-LABELLED SOLUTIONS

Excel Training

Kwonsulting offers customised training programs to help employees master Excel and integrations using Power Query - so they can spend less time Googling "how to fix a VLOOKUP" and more time actually getting things done.

Learn the tricks of the trade - because yes, there’s more to Excel than SUM and dragging formulas down.

No confusing jargon, presented in PowerPoint slides (so I lied, this is one of the handful times I would use PowerPoint!), and practical applications that actually help.

Your go-to numbers guy (who’s also a team player)

Kwonsulting regularly works with Management Consulting firms as the go-to Quantitative Subject Matter Expert and with Accounting firms as an extra set of hands when things get a little too busy.

If you’re a Principal, Director, or Partner at a consultancy looking for an ad-hoc numbers wizard to complement your service offering, look no further!

  • Need someone who actually enjoys complex financial modeling? Done.

  • Overflow work piling up? Consider it handled.

  • Want me to blend in seamlessly? I’ll even wear your branded cap - literally.

Always open to teaming up with other consultancies to deliver value to clients - because at the end of the day, collaboration beats chaos (and no one wants to be drowning in spreadsheets alone).
